I can't believe it is month number eight for the color blog. Since I started this project, I knew that August was going to be one of the most difficult months for me. As Peridot, the August birthstone is also my own birthstone, and I have honestly never been a fan; to me, it's yellowish-green. Even my class ring, yes, I am old enough that class rings were still a thing. I picked my school color over my birthstone. All that being said, I've had a change of heart. I discovered so many cool lighter green tones and in things that I actually love.
First is Mrs. Meyer's Lemon Verbena Dish Soap. I use it, and it works great, and the label was perfect for the project. Next is lemon verbena from my garden; if you have never had this herb, it's great, fragrant, and flavorful. You can also use it to make great syrups for cocktails. The third is the Edna Lewis room at The Inn at Little Washington, a birthday trip I took. The green florals on the wallpaper were perfect for this project. Fourth is also from a birthday trip, one of the courses at the French Laundry the greens of the vegetables were perfect for this month. Then we have what I consider my food bible, the Gourmet Cookbook by Ruth Reichel. This peridot-colored book has the answer to almost any ingredient you can find, and the color jumps out off the shelf. Sixth is my favorite flower, hydrangeas, and these turn from purple to green as summer wears on. The seventh is sweet (yes, pun intended), a pistachio chocolate bite from Wine Loves Chocolate in Washington, VA. Finally, some Italian basil from my garden.
This is part of a year-long project to refresh my creativity and train my eye a little more on seeing colors. Throughout 2021 I will post images at the end of each month that will relate to that month's birthstone/color. Some of the photographs will be of my regular work, architecture, drone, or food, but hopefully, some will come from new content I see throughout the month. Training myself to slow down and see the area around me differently.
Comment below and let me know what you think of my interpretations this month.
